Why Chrome asks for these permissions
activeTab and scripting are used only after you choose Check current text, so TermLock can read selected text or the focused ordinary editor in the current tab. TermLock has no host permissions or persistent content scripts. storage keeps rules and access state locally, while alarms schedules license-status refreshes. Checked text is never sent to the licensing service.
